Mentors Vs. Sponsors

Many of us have heard of mentors. A mentor by definition is an experienced and trusted adviser. Mentors cut your learning curve dramatically by having experience in the thing you’re looking to achieve.

Sponsors, however, are the lesser-known advocate of our future. They’re the individuals who don’t guide us through the door but they open it. They’re the people who give us the opportunity.

Your mentor will guide you to prepare for the interview or pitch but the individual you’re speaking with is the sponsor who can truly offer the opportunity for you. Have you had great sponsors in your life?

How To Find A Mentor

Mentorship comes in several forms. And there are branches of mentorship which look a little different. Mentors can be paid, or free. Paid mentors offer great value when your success is their success. It’s not uncommon for mentors to be paid $500+ per month. At this rate, you’d expect the value you get in return to be of that or greater. However, you must be aware the value doesn’t come back immediately. It’s a life long endeavour. Other mentors are free, you
probably communicate with these individuals less.

Finding your paid mentor won’t be overly difficult. There are websites and communities available to link people together. An example would be here: https://mentorcruise.com/ You could also reach out to individuals in the industry you’re looking to grow in. This works for both strategies, free and paid. Additionally, unconventionally you can be guided through by educational individuals online. Perhaps someone is very public about their niche. If you love real estate perhaps you follow Grant Cardone. You’d read all of his boos, study his videos, take his courses.

The Value of Mentorship

Mentors will save you years of learning. If you were going through a minefield but knew someone had a map of where the mines are… You’d probably let them guide you, wouldn’t you? That’s what mentors do for you in life. They’ll hold you accountable which can be motivation in itself. Modelling your business or life after someone who is doing what you want makes sense,
they’re achieving the very thing you want to. The value of mentorship will pay back over your entire life. You’ll keep the teachings with you forever and perhaps pass them down someday.

It’s my hope this article serves you well.

Thanks.
